I searched librarything.com using the words school library and teachers. Other searches adding technology and collaboration did not produce any satisfactory results. This search found a book titled Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson, and the tags for this book really caught my attention. Not only does this book look like it presents ways to use Web tools in the classroom, but the tags library 2.0, library media specialist, teachers, and teaching add the element of teachers and librarians bringing this technology into the schools.

Competency: RSS
I used google.com to search for my RSS feed. My search led me to the Library of Congress page, and when I clicked on RSS there was a place labeled specifically for teachers at the bottom that gave news relevant to technology and education. It is titled Library of Congress: News for Teachers.
The link is: http://www.loc.gov/index.html
One aspect of this RSS feed that is great is that it offers information for all types of curriculum and relates to technology. There are oral history interviews from veterans, so when students are writing letters to veterans in language arts, they can hear the interviews first to add a more personal feeling to their letters. The section about history offers collections and links over significant historical events that teachers can use with students in any history class, as well as comprehensive websites over wars that include maps, photographs, and external websites. NASA scientist Robert A. Bindschadler discusses warming in the polar regions, and students can watch this speech that took place at the Library of Congress from their teacher’s computer hooked to a projector. It would be a perfect activity for science.
As a librarian in a middle school, I will have the opportunity to share sites such as these with teachers and help them become familiar with the technology. Showing them the benefits and how this kind of technology can make learning even better for students is what my topic of teacher and librarian collaboration using technology is all about. It is imperative that I use RSS feeds such as this one to keep up with technology opportunities for teachers in the classroom.

Competency: Podcast
I used http://www.google.com/ to find my podcast. The link to the podcast is http://www.hopkintonschools.org/hhs/library/podcasts/sleeping.mp3, and it is titled Isinglass Teen Read Award BooktalksHopkinton High School & Hopkinton Middle School Library.
This podcast consists of oral book summaries given over books students read and vote for each year. I chose the podcast over Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, a book that is on our Texas Classics list for students to read this year. I chose this podcast because it is my topic in action. Librarians can collaborate with teachers to have students listen to the podcasts and choose what books they want to read based on the summary given. This is a great way for audio learners to hear about a book and find something that grabs their interest. I think this could also be adapted so students create the podcasts and review books so other students hear which books they liked and what they recommend.

Competency: Related Blog
I used http://blogsearch.google.com/ to search for information on teachers and librarians collaborating and using technology.
The url for this blog is http://bookminder.blogspot.com/2008/06/resources-for-librarians.html and it is titled The WebFooted Booklady for teacher-librarians: information literacy and the promotion of reading. The blog was posted by Lesley Edwards, a Teacher Librarian at a Secondary School. Lesley holds workshops to help integrate web 2.0 into classrooms.
This blog really drew me in because of the links listed to give further information on technology and instruction and how they collide. Several links lead to magazines or articles dedicated to my topic of interest. This gives me a place to find out more on my topic and receive practical advice and information from a variety of sources.
My friend Hazel has booked marked some excellent sites for librarians in her del.icio.us account. Here are some of the goodies she has found:
The Teaching Librarian: Exploring the intersection of reference services, technology and instruction.
School Library Media Activities Monthly has some excellent articles on a wide variety of topics such as collaboration, search techniques and 21st century skills.
Resources for School Librarians offers a list of journals, listservs and sites for library research.
Some of my favourite periodicals, like School Library Journal, have many online offerings worth checking into.
Teacher Librarian The Toolkit page which offers excellent resources such as the Collaborative Program Planning and Teaching: Record of Unit of Study that covers all the bases when it comes to planning units. The image above shows a much more simplified version I use with my high school staff who are often too busy for meetings that last longer than a few minutes. [Click to enlarge.]

Technology Goal
The purpose of this blog is to fulfill the requirments for LS5013 and to familiarize myself with blogging and wikis.
My library of interest is the middle school library, though I would like to be employed at any school library. The area I'm choosing to focus on is librarians working with teachers to incorporate technology into their classrooms and instruction. As a librarian, I want to be the person teachers feel they can come to for advice on how to incorporate technology into their teaching. I'm going to use this blog to help me explore the websites and interactive learning tools I can use to help teachers engage their students. In particular, I hope to find stories about librarians and educators collaborating and using technology to create success in the classroom. My goal is to increase my knowledge and be ready to share what I know when I finish my MLS.
